Peterborough April 2023

Following on from the Harrogate meet, a few vans stopped off at Ferry Meadows Caravan and Motorhome site, on the way to Peterborough Show. This site is conveniently located just off the A1 motorway and has the advantage of being very close to Ferry Meadows, part of the Nene Park Country Park. The park is popular for walkers, cyclists, fishing, boating, visiting the cafes, as well as just exploring the lakes and wildlife areas at your own pace. Some of the features include:-

One of the Adventure Playgrounds

Amazing Tree Sculpture

On Thursday the show opened to campers. Mick and Doreen, our Marshalls, had arrived the day before to mark out the club area

VW Line Up - not quite in order of Red, White, Blue

and were there to welcome members and to help pitch up. Peterborough show allows campers to access the exhibitors area on the Thursday, the day before it is open to day visitors. Quite a few members took advantage of the weather to look around and purchase wanted items before the rush (and also before they sold out!). We were lucky with the weather and managed to get together for a welcome drink in the middle of the club area.

Mick and Doreen welcomed us and set out times for a quiz (which was done in two parts, over two days) as well as hand out resources with which to make our paper aeroplanes ready for a flying competition.

17 vans attended overall and it was good to see new members as well as regular attendees.

There were a few new four legged members too!

Apart from the wind which was cold, gusted from time to time and seemed to change direction frequently, which made setting out awnings and windbreaks a challenge, we were lucky with the weather throughout the show. One stall at the show, home-made organic ice creams, regularly sold out – especially thanks to Lyn who enjoyed sampling the different flavours and encouraged others to go along and try them too!! Rum and raisin flavour was a particular favourite!

We gathered together for the presentation of prizes for the quiz

and the paper aeroplanes competition. The wind wasn’t as strong that afternoon but it was the luck of the moment when planes were launched whether there was a cross wind, tail wind or head wind.

It’s a shame that was the last Motorhome Show at Peterborough, it’s always a popular show and the location is good for access being just off the A1. Let’s hope future shows at the new site at Newark are just as popular.
