Once again we returned to the Western Motorhome Show held at Malvern. This is a very popular meet with members and is one of the larger shows in the Warners calendar. We, the Marshalls, arrived on site on the Wednesday to a vacant paddock near to the area behind the stable blocks we have camped on previously.
We spent a warm and sunny morning pegging out the pitches, trying to ensure we had all the required pitches as well as an area for communal gatherings. Due to the heat we left the putting up of direction signs until early evening! This club area is in a quieter part of the show ground but still within a reasonable reach of the exhibitors and entertainment area. There are always plenty of retailers to browse around at Malvern as well as a good food area and entertainment venues. Vans began arriving on Thursday morning and altogether there were 25 vans on site.
Thursday late afternoon saw everyone get together and we all enjoyed catching up with friends old and new.
Friday was the first day of the show itself. It was so, so hot and lots of people went early to the show to look around before the temperatures soared. The theme of this show is Country and Western and over the weekend there were opportunities for anyone who wanted to take part in the line dancing sessions to learn or improve their dancing skills ready for the evening music and dancing. A pre-booked coach trip to Worcester also was an option for some and frequent buses went from outside the show ground into Malvern.
Friday late afternoon was when we all got together to celebrate the club’s 20th birthday. Everyone brought their own picnic food and drinks. Lyn had provided 2 celebratory cakes and Carol had made a cake with the IH Logo on. Cathie had also made some amazing, true made in Scotland, shortbread. There was a folder on display that Kath had compiled of lots of photos of all the club events held over the past 20 years. It was interesting to see past locations and how people and vans have changed over the years. Some of the current members were at the start of the club and were able to help identify unfamiliar faces. Thanks were given to Tony and Mary who were there 20 years ago to launch the club.
Not only were the daytime skies blue and clear resulting in the hot weather, the night skies were clear and the temperatures remained high throughout the evenings and overnight. At various times over the weekend we were lucky to see fly bys of World War II planes.
Later on Saturday afternoon the annual paper plane flying competition took place. Competitors had to carefully judge when to launch their plane due to the gusts of winds which were a welcome relief in the high temperatures but not good for paper plane flying! This year’s winner was Mike W.
Over the weekend Pete and Pauline were kind enough to give people a tour of their new van. Very nice indeed! The long van alongside Ray and Bev’s van, next to the communal area, gave much needed shade for our get togethers.
On Sunday morning a coffee morning was held and the quiz answers were given out. The winners of the picture quiz were Nic and Julie. The chocolate and sweet quiz winners were Carol and Paul.
Also, a big thank you to Carol once again for the DELICIOUS cakes enjoyed with our coffee.
Altogether we all had an enjoyable time at the show along with the celebrations of the club’s 20th birthday.
Thank you so much to everyone who attended.
Wendy, Gary, Kath and Lance
