A total of 15 IH Owners’ vans attended the Spring Meet at Commons Wood Caravan and Motorhome Club site over the 5 night period beginning Thursday 27th March. It was good for members to catch up with other members to compare notes on vans and travels. Jill and Dave, along with a few other members, had arrived a day earlier so were well set up to welcome others as and when they arrived on site. The welcome packs handed out were full of very useful information about the area and transport options for getting out and about as well as quiz sheets. Cake boxes containing delicious personalised small cakes were a lovely touch.
Fortunately the weather was good on Friday morning so a ‘Welcome coffee morning/get together’ took place outside Cathie and Jim’s new van (and what a lovely van it is!) Warm sausage rolls, provided by Jill and Dave, were appreciated by all. Even the dogs were included as Jill had brought along dog biscuits too!
We were very lucky with the weather and members took advantage of the lovely sunny weather to catch the bus into Welwyn Garden City, St Albans, Hertford or Hitchin. Lynn and Judy were in the right place at the right time when visiting the market in St Albans on Saturday afternoon as the flower stall trader was keen to offload surplus ‘Mothers Day’ flowers cheaply. Thus they returned to site with bunches of orchids and freesias which they very kindly shared out with everyone.
Dog walkers could walk around the nearby woods where Monk Jack deer could be seen, as well as the red kites evident in the sky over the site and an owl by the entrance gate.
The group meal at the pub in Hatfield ‘The Red Lion’ was on Friday evening. We all enjoyed the meal gathered together in the large dining room. Everyone commented on how swiftly the staff served the meals and an enjoyable evening was had by all.
On Saturday afternoon, we gathered together for drinks and nibbles, catching up with where everyone had been that day enjoying the early evening sunshine. We took the opportunity with everyone gathered together to express our thanks to Jill and Dave for all their efforts in planning and organising the meet as well as discussing the future meet to be held at the Western Motorhome show in August and ideas for a possible venue for the Autumn meet.
There had been two quizzes handed out for entertainment over the previous days and the answers and prizes were given out on Monday late afternoon. The pictures of famous celebrities was won by Ray and Bev, with Gary and Wendy runners up. The anagrams of foods quiz was won by Jen & Charles, with prizes also awarded to Pauline & Pauline and Margaret and Horace. The quizzes had been very well received, a fun source of entertainment that certainly gave our brains a good workout!
The staff at the site had been friendly, welcoming and very helpful whenever their local knowledge was asked for, the site itself was very well kept which was much appreciated as well as its convenient location for transport links to quite a range of places in the vicinity as well as for transport to London for anyone wishing to venture further afield.
Tuesday morning meant saying farewell and expressing thanks once again to Jill and Dave for all their hard work in ensuring such a good time was had by all!
