Another well attended and thoroughly enjoyable Malvern Show Meet.
Marshalls Ray & Bev Bayes and Martin & Tina House set up the rally area on the
Wednesday in glorious sunshine. The area was new to the IHOC, being a little further back
from last year but generally in a good and well-received position.
Thursday was dull and overcast and saw the arrival of 27 vans plus Martin from IH This
included a number of new IHOC members and IH van owners who were thoroughly
welcomed. An informal Get Together was attempted at 5pm and aborted due to the onset of
rain. However, a re-run went ahead at 6:30pm and an enjoyable social gathering was had
under somewhat leaden skies, although further rain did hold off. The weather for the rest of
the weekend turned decidedly better and stayed warm and dry.
Friday saw the show open and with the arrival of Trevor & Margaret, Trevor proffering his
doctors note by way of explanation for not arriving Thursday, our full complement for the
weekend was now safely pitched up. That evening a further social gathering was held and everyone enjoyed the evening sunshine.
The traditional Paper Aeroplane competition took place on Saturday afternoon.
This year it was won by Ray Hartland, with his first throw. Lots of discussion around show purchases
was had. The general theme this year seemed to be new Camping Chairs, with many of us
taking the plunge in that never-ending quest for the perfect chair.
Sunday morning, we gathered for a very pleasant Coffee Morning. Many thanks go out to
cake providers. Paul once again brought along some wonderful cakes provided by his wife
Carol. Helen also produced a delicious offering and Ray & Bev brought along some great
homemade shortcake which had been baked by their daughter-in-law Ruth.
Sunday afternoon saw the results of the Window Pictures competition, which this year was
won jointly in a three-way split between James & Helen, Charles & Jen and Jean & Mike.
Extra prizes were then awarded for the best artwork displayed in the Window Pictures. This
prize was judged solely, and without any leave to appeal, by Tina.
The first prize went to Tracey and Les, for their depiction of the film “The Quiet Man” with the runners up prize
going to Helen & James for “Wolf Hall”
After last year’s debacle with the quiz questions, Ray had resolved to do better this year with
what he thought was a simpler offering of a celebrity photo quiz and an A-to-Z Music quiz.
Safe to say he did not quite manage that, but we did manage to derive some winners. The
overall combined winners were John and Ann. Separate prizes for the Celebrity Photos and
Music A-to-Z went to Rob & Cath and Gary & Wendy respectively. With the confusion
finally resolved, Ray has now resolved to steer clear of quiz setting from here on in.
That wrapped up, what we all agreed, was another great weekend.
