Nottingham November 2024

Autumn Meet 2024 at Nottingham, Cotgrave

We had had a really memorable meet at this site in 2017 when it  was privately owned.  The Camping and Caravanning Club took over the site earlier this year. The site (with heated facilities block) and the wardens were excellent.

Rather than welcome drinks…..we all met at The Shepherds pub for a group meal.  As the pub is a five minute walk from the site many of us returned more than once!  Good, well priced food at a Stonehouse group pub with a bus stop and a pocket park and ride on the door step!

The Christmas market in Nottingham was open as was the Winter Wonderland…..complete with ice skating and a big wheel!  The atmosphere was really special.

Some people went to Wollaton Hall where there is a museum of industry and an amazing temporary exhibition of Willard Wigan's miniatures.    Stilton cheese is a local delicacy. There were several dairies which could be visited. A Robin Hood trail which featured many historical sites in the city including Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem……a unique pub. The bus service from the site was frequent …..a real  bonus!

The weather was very mixed. Nights were cold! We were so grateful to the site staff for allowing us to use the office/cafe area in the evening. The wood burning stove lent a special ambiance to two evenings of drinking. eating and Scrabble playing (for 4!).

Carol Jarvis sent some very tasty cakes which we enjoyed at several coffee gatherings. We thanked her with some flowers and an amaryllis.

18 vans had booked the meet. Another arrived because they knew we were there!  4 legged friends and their owner members all had a good time.

Snow fell overnight on Monday so we all departed quickly!
